NEXT GIVEAWAY - Thursday, October 6 at Petersburg Primary School in Pageland, SC.
Christ’s Closet is a ministry of Union United Methodist Church that delivers free clothing in the name of Christ to those in need.
Origin. Christ’s closet originated in May 2012 with the men’s bible study, which is open to the public and now meets almost every Tuesday at 7pm at Brooklyn Pizza in Wesley Chapel. Approximately a year before starting Christ’s Closet, the bible study began reading a series of challenging books. Each book challenged believers to demonstrate God’s love and salvation by becoming His hands and feet in this world. One fateful evening, the men’s bible study prayed for direction about how to do this, with one member noting with a wry smile that such prayer could be “dangerous.” Indeed it was. God directed the bible study to the clothing ministry, which became more than anyone expected, delivering clothes to more than 1,000 in its first year. Christ’s Closet is now a ministry of the entire church and continues to grow with God's blessings.
Donations. Donations are typically made by dropping off clothes in two 24 hours boxes opposite the church on New Town road. Each member of Union also is willing (and does) receive donations personally. God has blessed the ministry by delivering mountains of new and gently used, high-quality clothing that in turn blesses those in need. Most donors are anonymous. However, the ministry believes it is primarily supported by the generous community surrounding our church in the neighborhoods of Wesley Chapel and Waxhaw, inspired by God.
Ministry. Christ’s Closet is mobile, and brings clothes where they are needed. In its first year, the ministry has conducted giveaways at the Union County homeless shelter, schools with high poverty rates, and simply by setting up tables outside the church. If you know of a location that needs a giveaway, please contact us at email@example.com.
Get Involved. Christ’s Closet is staffed by the members of Union United Methodist Church, powered by the Holy Spirit. However, we welcome volunteers. If you would like to get involved, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
